Wakefield sets out Economic Growth Plan 

Wakefield Council is set to advance the regeneration of the town, with cabinet members due to consider the appointment of a preferred Strategic Regeneration Partner at a meeting on 21 July.

The scheme will be the developer’s largest speculative logistics project in the UK and forms the next phase in the redevelopment of the former coal yard at Ferrybridge Power Station into a logistics and infrastructure hub.

Three organisations have so far submitted proposals to the council, including a consortium of Halifax Panthers directors. 

Senior civic and business leaders from across the North of England will travel to the country this October in a bid to attract inward investment and strengthen trade links following the introduction of the UK-India Free Trade Agreement.

The construction firm has has started on a transport and public realm project designed to improve walking and cycling links between the neighbouring town and village in Calderdale.

The agreement enables demolition and enabling works to begin using funding already secured through Homes England’s Brownfield, Infrastructure and Land programme, with works expected to start on site within weeks.

A series of road closures will be introduced across the town over the coming months as major civil engineering works progress on the £10bn TRU project.

The grade one-listed civic building is managed by Calderdale Council, and the project forms part of the wider £17.5m Todmorden Town Deal investment programme funded by the government.
