East Yorkshire starts on Local Plan
A public consultation is now live and ongoing until the end of August, as the council prepares to identify the scale of development that will come forward over a 15-year period and specific sites where new development will be supported.
The local plan sets out the long-term plan for development in the East Riding, containing policies to guide decisions and allocating sites that will provide new housing and employment opportunities.
Despite adopting a Local Plan Update in 2025, the council will prepare a new plan now due to a 30-month system announced by the government, which aims to introduce a faster and more streamlined plan preparation process.
Through this consultation, the council will invite feedback on the planning issues that need to be addressed and how this will align with national policy expectations.
It will also consult on how the council should engage with stakeholders throughout the plan-making process.
This scoping consultation will then inform the later stages of the plan-making process, which will need to identify the scale of development that will come forward over a 15-year period and specific sites where new development will be supported.
