Green light for Cannon Brewery 

Capital&Centric’s regeneration of the four-acre former Stones Brewery in Sheffield will deliver 240 homes in the first phase, with the wider masterplan increasing this number to 500 alongside 15,000 sq ft of commercial space.

Located in Neepsend, the developer intends to turn the long-vacant landmark into a neighbourhood with space for independent businesses, while keeping its industrial heritage. Once one of Sheffield’s largest employers, Cannon closed the brewery in 1999.

Resident amenities will include a gym, co-working spaces, lounges, and cinema rooms, as well as an urban park, public spaces, and pedestrian routes through the scheme.

Capital&Centric submitted a reserved matters application in February, and enabling works are already underway with construction set to begin later this year.

Capital&Centric is working with the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority and Sheffield City Council to deliver the project, with SYMCA awarding the scheme £11.67m from its Brownfield Housing Fund to kick-start the regeneration.

Architect shedkm, planner Urbana, Planit, Curtins, and the building services and heritage team from Civic all feature in the professional team.
