Harworth to start on logistics facility at Gateway 36 in Barnsley
Subject to approval, the regeneration and development company will deliver a 30,700 sq ft last-mile parcel and postal distribution facility at the South Yorkshire site, with completion expected towards the end of 2027.
Construction is set to begin on the logistics facility at Gateway 36 in Barnsley after Harworth secured a 20-year agreement with an unnamed logistics operator.
The building will be developed to Harworth’s standard specification, targeting a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating and an EPC A certification.
Sustainability features will include rooftop solar photovoltaic panels, LED lighting and electric vehicle charging points.
Once complete, the facility will be retained within Harworth’s investment portfolio.
Gateway 36, located adjacent to Junction 36 of the M1, forms part of the South Yorkshire Investment Zone and has benefited from infrastructure funding from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.
Businesses locating at the site can also access support through Enterprising Barnsley.
The new facility marks the latest phase of development at Gateway 36, where Harworth has already delivered 110,000 sq ft of industrial and distribution space for occupiers including retailer Dunelm, fashion brand Lucy & Yak, and home improvement specialist BOXT.
Harworth said the remaining plots within Phase 2 continue to attract strong occupier interest and are available on a build-to-suit basis.
The two largest remaining development parcels, Units 4 and 7, already have reserved matters planning consent for buildings of 132,000 sq ft and 155,000 sq ft respectively.
