JD Sports triples Meadowhall footprint

The sports fashion retailer has opened a 29,225 sq ft store on the Sheffield shopping centre’s Lower High Street, following the amalgamation of five retail units to create a new flagship with a 63 metre frontage.

Located adjacent to MINISO, the new store replaces JD Sports’ former unit and provides additional space for an expanded product offer, including brands such as Nike, Adidas, and The North Face, alongside performance labels including HOKA, Salomon and Saucony.

The larger format also incorporates dedicated brand zones and flexible space for in-store activations as Meadowhall continues its strategy of attracting flagship retail concepts.

Richard Crowther, retail leasing director at British Land, said: “When retailers choose to invest in refurbishing and upsizing their stores, it is a clear signal of both the success they are seeing today and the future potential they see in the destination.

“JD Sports’ impressive new 63m frontage brings a new level of vibrancy to the High Street, while creating an engaging store environment that reflects the brand’s unique identity.

“We are always looking for ways to enhance Meadowhall’s offer through new brands and concepts. This latest deal is a great example of how we are working alongside leading retailers to deliver the best possible experience for our shoppers and support the long-term success of the destination.”

James Air, director of group real estate and acquisitions at JD, said: “We’re proud to be expanding our presence in Meadowhall, creating a prime megastore at the heart of the region.

“This investment reflects our commitment to the city and gives customers access to an even bigger selection of the world’s leading sports, fashion and lifestyle brands, all within a phenomenal, high-spec new retail space. We can’t wait to welcome shoppers through the doors.”
