Hull CDC heads to committee

Designed by FaulknerBrowns Architects, the clinical diagnostics centre proposed for Albion Street is expected to secure approval.

The CDC will cover a wide range of healthcare areas. FaulknerBrowns’ CGI shows a  two-storey building with an entrance on the corner of Albion Street and Bond Street.

The centre will feature a range of services including MRI, X-ray, CT scanning and ultrasounds and is expected to provide more than 100 jobs.

CDCs are being developed across the country in a bid to better identify health problems early and improve outcomes for patients with conditions including cancer, stroke, heart disease and respiratory conditions, as well as reducing waiting times and pressures on acute hospital sites.

The plans were submitted late inj 2023, after Hull City Council’s cabinet signed the development off.

The NHS secured £16m in funding from the Department of Health and Social Care to develop a CDC in Hull, £12m of which will go towards construction of the facility, with the remaining amount allocated for clinical equipment.

The council will contribute £2m of funding from the existing Albion Square capital budget to support building costs.

Across a number of community diagnostics schemes being advanced across Humber and North Yorkshire, £80m is being invested, giving capacity for 1m additional diagnostic procedures annually.

Preparatory work has already begun on the development, with Albion Street car park undergoing reconstruction.

The plans can be viewed on Hull’s planning portal with the reference 23/03547/FULL. The committee will consider the project on 6 March.

Not a great design considering this is a prime location and opposite tens of GII Listed houses.
