East Riding council to acquire 123 new homes from developers
The council is purchasing 97 homes at Hull Road in Withernsea from Vistry and 26 homes at Poppy Place, Eastfield Road, Driffield, from Keepmoat.
The homes will be delivered over the next five years and will increase the supply of affordable housing available across the East Riding.
In Withernsea, 73 of the properties will be added to the council’s rented housing stock, while a further 24 will be offered through shared ownership.
The Poppy Place development in Driffield will also provide a mix of rented and shared ownership properties.
The acquisitions are being funded through the council’s Housing Revenue Account, with the programme also part-funded by Homes England grant funding.
The HRA is financed through council housing rents and is ring-fenced for investment in the authority’s housing stock, including the development and acquisition of new homes.
The council said the acquisitions would help address demand for affordable housing while enabling residents to remain within their local communities, close to employment, schools, family and support networks.
The acquisitions form part of the council’s wider ambition to increase the supply of affordable housing across East Riding and grow its council housing stock.
