GALLERY | Parkwood Springs adventure destination plans unveiled
New Zealand-based Skyline Enterprises is transforming the former Sheffield Ski Village site into a new outdoor adventure and leisure destination.
A three-week public consultation is now taking place, ahead of a planning application expected to be submitted towards the end of the year.
Skyline has appointed Omisa as project manager for the scheme. The wider consultant team includes Willis Hazell Engineers, Patersons, and Griffith Evans, alongside several Sheffield-based firms: Hadfield Cawkwell Davidson as architect, Ares as landscape architect, Weddles as environmental consultant, Urbana as planning consultant and Counter Context as communications adviser.
Subject to planning approval, the development would be delivered in phases with the first phase including a Skyline Luge downhill karting attraction, a scenic chairlift, an indoor educational attraction, café and terrace, outdoor plaza and family playground, as well as a customer car park.
A zipline attraction and surf wave experience are proposed as part of later phases, and the masterplan also includes longer-term proposals to bring dry ski slopes back to Parkwood Springs, reflecting the site’s history as a ski venue – the site was previously used to train the British freestyle skiing Olympic team, however has become a derelict plot.

Existing walking and mountain bike trails would be retained or relocated where necessary as part of the development, with public access to the site maintained.
Skyline Enterprises is a global adventure tourism and visitor attractions operator and is behind Skyline Luge attractions in a number of international locations.
These latest proposals sit alongside wider investment by Sheffield City Council in the area, including a £19m Levelling Up Fund programme that will deliver a new access road, junction improvements, and wider infrastructure upgrades.
