And finally… the diet starts tomorrow
Five Yorkshire restaurants made it into the top 100 of the National Restaurant Awards this year, with Joro in Sheffield claiming the region’s highest spot, followed by Myse in Hovingham, The Angel at Hetton, The Black Swan at Oldstead, and Forge at Middleton Lodge.
The National Restaurant Awards was launched in 2007 and splits the UK into 11 regions.
In what must be a simply laborious job, each year 200 food writers, chefs, and restaurateurs nominate their top seven restaurants from the previous 12 months, with a points system finalising the top 100 list.
Joro and Forge were new entrants this year, with Joro coming in at number 43, while Middleton Lodge’s restaurant was at 88.
Meanwhile, returning victors Myse, The Angel at Hetton, and The Black Swan at Oldstead came in at a respectable 72, 75, and 81 respectively.
Joro is located in Kelham Island, in the 19th century Oughtibridge Mill.
Owners Luke (who is also the chef) and Stacey Sherwood French renovated the derelict paper mill into an 11-table restaurant with seven rooms.
The price of an overnight stay and tasting-menu dinner starts from a rather reasonable £125 – those wishing to splash some serious cash could opt for The Black Swan, where an overnight stay and tasting-menu will set you back around £795.
Somewhat predictably, the number one top spot was claimed by The Ritz in London.
