Federal fuels for Northern rollout

Seeking to gobble up further market share in the brunch segment, the café group has secured £3m from private equity backer Foresight to support a further 18 sites by 2030.

Federal currently employs 74 staff across four sites – three in Manchester and one in Leeds, having ventured into Yorkshire in late 2025. The business was founded in 2014 by Claudio Ribeiro.

Karen Jones, a seasoned hospitality executive, has been appointed as chairperson, bringing experience with Café Rouge, Frontier Pubs, Hawksmoor, Deliveroo, Whitbread and Mowgli to bear in supporting the management team.

Foresight said that Federal has a significant opportunity to expand by accelerating its site rollout and replicating its successful offering and operating model. Foresight comes with experience in the F&B sector, having been involved with the rollout of brands including Mowgli, 200 Degrees Coffee and Roxy Leisure.

The PE house said it will help Federal unlock its growth potential to deliver 18 sites by 2030 resulting in the creation of up to 250 jobs.

Claudio Ribeiro, founder and chief executive of Federal, said: “This investment marks a significant milestone for Federal. With Foresight’s backing, we can accelerate our regional expansion and bring our unique brunch experience to more communities. We’re proud of what we’ve built and excited about the opportunities ahead.”

From the Foresight side of the deal, partner Claire Alvarez said: “Federal represents exactly the type of high-quality, scalable business we look to back.

“Its strong brand, exceptional customer experience and proven model in a growing market segment make it an exciting investment opportunity. We’re delighted to support Claudio and the team as they embark on the next phase of growth.”

Given the multiple site locations targeted, the investment has been made from Foresight’s North West Fund, North East Fund and West Yorkshire Growth Fund.

A global firm, Foresight itself has offices in Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield.
