Rotherham launches call for sites as Local Plan work begins

The 10-week submission window will inform development across the borough into the 2040s.

The exercise, which runs until 28 August, invites residents, landowners, developers, and community organisations to submit land for potential future uses, helping to inform the evidence base for the authority’s next planning framework.

The council is seeking information on sites that could accommodate a range of uses, including housing, employment, commercial and retail development, leisure and tourism, community facilities, infrastructure, renewable energy, waste and minerals.

It is also inviting suggestions for land that may merit environmental protection or designation as green space.

The authority said submitting a site does not mean it will be allocated for development or granted planning permission. Instead, all submissions will be assessed alongside other technical evidence before decisions are made on future land allocations.

The new Local Plan is expected to be adopted in 2029 and will set out how Rotherham intends to meet future housing, employment and infrastructure requirements over the coming decades.

The call for sites marks the first stage in the plan-making process, with further rounds of public consultation due to take place as the document is developed.
