Laing O’Rourke confirmed on Calderdale Royal Hospital 

The contractor will continue its work on the project and deliver a 330,000 sq ft emergency department that will double the size of the facility.

Working with Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust,  the new building will also have a dedicated children’s emergency department and eight new wards.

Enabling work to get CRH ready for the build has already started, with construction on the new hospital building due to begin later this year. Completion is expected in 2029.

Located in Halifax, around 1.5km from the town centre on Dryclough Lane, the scheme received outline permission in 2022 and received full permission in October last year. 

Supported by AECOM, Arcadis, and CBRE, plans also include  a ground level and a rooftop terrace, neither of which will be accessible but will be visible from the hospital windows.

Once open, CRH will provide all unplanned services, with all planned care being located at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
