Hull to mull 48-bungalow site
The council is keen to progress the North Bransholme scheme, located on the premises of a former school, however an objection from Sport England means it will likely be referred to secretary of state Angela Rayner.
Developer Riverside Developments (Hull) will employ Azza Construction to deliver the site for Pickering & Ferens Housing Association.
The project has been designed by Beverley-based Sangwin Architects and supported by Doug Jennings Planning Consultancy.
Plans include 33 single storey and 15 dormer bungalows, consisting of two- to three-bedrooms.
The 3.5 acre site was previously home to Dales Primary School, which closed in 2006.
The council then leased it to a community group, which constructed two all-weather pitches. This ceased operating in 2015.
Following vandalism and a fire in 2022, the site is now vacant and derelict, with the building demolished in 2023.
The front of the site, which was occupied by the former school, is already allocated for housing in the Local Plan.
The rear part of the site, however, is identified as an outdoor sports facilities in the Local Plan, hence the objection from Sport England.
A former health centre-turned-gym was also on the site, and has also been demolished.
The council will meet on Wednesday to discuss the application, and has recommended it for approval.
It acknowledges that it may have to be referred to the secretary of state for the ministry of housing, communities, and local government, Angela Rayner.
