BOOK NOW | Energy & Power 2025
The availability of power for developments of all types is reaching a crisis point. Join us for the first-ever instalment of this half-day conference, which will explore the challenges the sector is facing and their solutions.
Energy & Power is sponsored by Mills & Reeve, Caddick, Stantec, Cavendish and Lichfields. It will take place at Voco in Manchester on Tuesday, 16 September and feature a mix of presentations and panels. Breakfast and lunch are included, providing plenty of opportunities for business development. As a note, local authorities and registered providers can purchase tickets at a 50% discount.
Now is the time to be discussing the UK’s energy future. Our National Grid is far from fit to handle the growing demand as our country becomes more power hungry. Lack of easy access to power is impacting every sector of the built environment, from housing to industrial and logistics.
Going forward, the state of the grid also has large implications for the future of clean energy – a sector that the North wants to dominate as the next green energy superpower.
Expect to discuss the current energy situation as well as our future prospects in the realm of hydrogen, nuclear, and the renewable trifecta of onshore and offshore wind, hydro, and solar.
Speakers confirmed so far:

Joe Chambers is a senior development manager at Cubico. Cubico is behind plans for Scout Moor Two, the largest onshore wind farm to come forward since Labour lifted the de facto ban on the technology last year. Chambers will discuss this project and the role wind power will play over the coming years.
Olivia White is a director at Cavendish. White has extensive experience leading consultations on infrastructure & energy projects, with specific focus on nationally significant infrastructure projects. She will give an overview of public perceptions of these sorts of projects, which can often be controversial, including solar and carbon capture.
Mara Rastall is the chief executive officer at Enspec Power. Electrical engineering consultancy Enspec is at the coal face when it comes to understanding the challenges facing heavy electricity users. Rastall will shine a light on how far the sector has come and how far it still has to go.
Stephen Cox is the director of economics & regeneration at Stantec. An experienced regeneration professional, Cox will provide insight into how the current state of the energy sector is impacting efforts across the country to deliver new and improved places.
Dr Jennie Stein is the head of net zero at Enterprising Cumbria. Cumbria is one of the UK’s energy heartlands and is at the forefront of efforts to decarbonise the grid. Stein will explain what the county is doing in this space as various large projects get underway.
Melissa Wilson is a planning director at Lichfields. Wilson works on multi-disciplinary projects in the North West and across the UK, specialising in energy & infrastructure projects, so she is well-placed to comment on how the increasing demand for power is manifesting itself across both the public and private sectors.
Gráinne Gilmore is the director of research and insights at Cluttons. The real estate advisory firm is active in the power and digital connectivity sector, providing advice for infrastructure and energy transformation projects. As Cluttons’ director of research and insights, Gilmore leads their sector research and brings a wealth of knowledge, especially around the evolving role of energy infrastructure in urban development and investment.
James Johnson is the head of the regional programme for the North West Net Zero Hub. As such, he oversees the delivery of the North West Net Zero Hub programme on behalf of the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero and the NW Net Zero Hub management board. Johnson has more than a decade of experience supporting local government organisations to act on energy system decarbonisation and the climate emergency. He has a strong understanding of national net zero policy. He is also a specialist in energy in the built environment, with a master’s degree in building services engineering and sustainable energy.
