Care home greenlit for York’s Lime Trees site

A 60-bed elderly living facility will be built on the former mental health building’s footprint after Yorkare Homes secured planning permission, working with NHS Property Services and York Sports Club on the £15m project.

JLL acted as planning consultant on the project, which will see the club gifted land for improved and additional sports pitches.

The site has been vacant for two years following the relocation of the Trust’s National Deaf Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service to Haxby Road.

York Sports Club has a need for additional playing spaces for its youth and women’s teams. The works will enhance the quality of existing pitches and see new pitches dedicated to its girls’, boys’ and women’s teams and warm-up pitches for senior players.

Laurence Garton, development director at Yorkare Homes, said: “This is an excellent opportunity to redevelop one of the most exciting sites we have seen in years. By retaining a 2.5-acre site we’ll be able to allow residents and visitors alike to enjoy woodland walks and invest in environmental and ecological improvements going forwards.

“We are looking forward to starting work on the development and welcoming our first residents in 2025.”

Yorkare and York Sports Club plan to start development in early summer 2024.
