Henry Boot wins £36m Rotherham markets revamp
Rotherham Council has chosen Henry Boot Construction to spearhead the much-anticipated redevelopment of the town’s market, a project that also includes a new library.
As part of the town centre’s masterplan, the indoor market refurbishment will offer a food hall and dining area, with community-oriented workspaces to be installed on the floor above.
The new library – replacing the facility at Riverside House – will offer a family-friendly café, meeting rooms, multi-use gallery space and a ‘Business and Intellectual Property Centre,’ a hub for entrepreneurs and small-business owners to network and grow.
Rotherham’s large outdoor market will also be incorporated into plans to become a space for community-led events and exhibitions when stalls are not in use. The outdoor market has been relocated for the duration of the project.
As outlined by director Amy Stanbridge at Place Yorkshire’s Emerging Development Hotspots event in March, Henry Boot Construction has established a reputation for major urban regeneration projects in the region with a portfolio including The Glass Works in Barnsley, a £200m project revitalising the town’s historic markets.
On winning the contract, Tim Roberts, chief executive of Henry Boot praised the company’s “track record of high-quality delivery” in urban redevelopment.
Andrew Bramidge, interim strategic director for regeneration & environment at Rotherham Council, spoke of his delight at securing Henry Boot Construction as the partner for the project, trusting that their work will breathe life into the town centre and create an “impressive new venue for present and future generations to enjoy”.
The contract was procured and awarded to Henry Boot Construction through the Crown Commercial Services’ Construction Works and Associated Services framework.
