Calderdale Royal Hospital A&E gets the green light
Plans for the demolition and construction of a 330,000 sq ft unit sailed through the planning meeting, with work expected to complete in 2029.
Supported by AECOM, Arcadis, CBRE, and Laing O’Rourke, the project will see the construction of a single building ranging from three- to four-storeys that will house a new Accident & Emergency department and eight wards, as an extension to the existing main hospital.
Construction work is due to start next summer.
Located in Halifax, around 1.5km from the town centre on Dryclough Lane, the scheme received outline permission in 2022.
Landscaping will include a ground level and a rooftop terrace, neither of which will be accessible but will be visible from the hospital windows.
Chief executive of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust Rob Aitchison said: “This investment will improve the experience of patients using our services, and colleagues, who will have access to the state-of-the-art, purpose-built facilities which are fit for the future.”
