And finally… roll out the Beryls

The latest addition to CEG’s Globe Point in Leeds is a docking station as part of the city’s all-electric public bike hire scheme.

Thought to be the UK’s first all-electric public bike hire scheme, Beryl and Leeds City Council launched the network in 2023, bringing a new angle to commuting across the city, with hundreds of e-bikes available for hire by the hour at more than 50 locations.

Docking for 15 bikes is provided at Globe Point, where they will be recharged using the building’s renewably sourced electricity.

Showers and lockers are also available to the tenants based in the building to help support their green travel choices. It will soon be getting really warm, of course (PLEASE say it will).

“In keeping with Globe Point’s strong environmental ethos, having electric bikes on site for hire provide an opportunity for travel by sustainable modes. Just a few minutes’ walk from Leeds City Station’s southern entrance, you can pop to work on the train and nip out to a meeting by bike,” explained Antonia Martin Wright, the director of commercial development at CEG, adding:

“Alongside the fitness classes we organise, the e-bikes also provide another opportunity for the hundreds of people working in the building stay fit and healthy, as well as doing their bit for the environment.”
