Lidl lodges Skipton plans

The popularity of the supermarket reigns, with 80% of people asked in favour of the discount store coming to the North Yorkshire town.

As well as the store itself, the application is for 16,500 sq ft of business units on the site at Wyvern Way, off the A629 Skipton bypass.

Part of the Wyvern Park development, the land is already allocated to employment use as part of the wider masterplan.

Liam Schofield, regional head of property at Lidl GB, said: “We’re pleased that residents in Skipton are as excited about our plans to bring a new Lidl store to the town as we are.

“Having spoken with the community during this consultation, it’s clear that the new jobs and investment into the local economy that the development would bring is very much welcome…

“By delivering a new access point and essential infrastructure, the scheme has the potential to act as a catalyst for unlocking the commercial and employment opportunities within the wider Wyvern Park development – parts of which have yet to progress since outline planning permission was first granted in 2016.”
