Penthouse glamour on the cards for Redcar
Vista Estates is looking to add two storeys to Craigton House in the town centre and convert the building into a 31-apartment block complete with top floor suites.
Designed by LJC Architecture, the flats would be one- to three-bedrooms and the penthouses would have rooftop balconies and sea views.
Around five of the apartments would be affordable.
Located in West Terrace, the three-storey building currently has nine flats on the top two floors and retail units on the ground floor.
A 17-space car park is also part of the designs, with a four-storey extension built at the back of the building over the current car park, which will become an underground space.
Sustainability features would also be incorporated such as solar panels and a ‘living wall’ .
A consultation is ongoing, with residents able to comment to the council until 8 August.

Adding storeys never works and is too disruptive for existing residents.
I have seen several buildings whose foundation solution is not appropriate to take extra weight and this has led to a detrimental impact on existing residents.
This practice should be banned on ALL buildings that are in any way occupied by existing residents.
