Network Rail completes Filey Railway upgrades

The 19th century North Yorkshire station has undergone a £3.6m refurbishment that included roof and window repairs, and improvements to the café and bathrooms.

The grade two-listed building opened in 1846 and needed glazing and tile replacements on the roof and the restoration of the train shed windows.

Working alongside The Railway Heritage Trust, Network Rail also added walkways for safer maintenance in the future.

TRHT contributed £53,000 towards the project.

Jake Walton, Network Rail senior asset engineer said: “This project will ensure the station remains a piece of railway heritage, while making it fit for the future.”

David Skaith, mayor of York and North Yorkshire said: “It’s great to see a building with such heritage be looked after, to make sure that families and friends can come together on our beautiful coastline for another 180 years.”
