Hull appoints Eric Wright Civil Engineering
As part of the city’s extensive regeneration work, the council has selected the firm to carry out upgrades to High Street with the aim of improving the area between the Old Town and Fruit Market on the Hull Maritime Trail.
The work is part of the ongoing works that also extend into Humber Dock Street and Princes Dock street, where C R Reynolds is the main contractor.
Funding for the project has come from National Highways and Hull City Council.
Work is expected to get underway immediately and be completed by late summer.
Improvements to High Street will focus on making the area safer and more welcoming for pedestrians, and improving connectivity for motorists.
In general, work on all three chosen streets is hoping to create public spaces that make people want to visit the city, highlight its maritime heritage through public art, and create spaces for a range of public events.
This will be achieved by reducing street clutter, new street furniture, and better signage.
Gillian Osgerby, Hull City Council’s interim assistant director of major projects and infrastructure, said: “Hull City Council is proud to support the improvements to High Street as part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the urban environment and create a more vibrant, accessible, and attractive city centre.”
