Buttress Architects makes heritage hire
The firm has appointed Phil Ward, previously head of conservation at Leeds City Council, as a senior consultant.
Ward will bring a strong network as he joins Buttress’s growing heritage consultancy team. He will be based in the company’s Leeds studio as it continues to develop its presence in the region with projects across Yorkshire.
Throughout his career in conservation and placemaking – including 15 years heading up LCC’s conservation team – Ward has been involved in a number of landmark assets, including First White Cloth Hall, Tower Works, Round Foundry and Leeds Town Hall.
Jenna Johnston, associate director, heritage consultancy, said: “I first worked with Phil back in 2015 through our project at the wonderful grade two-listed First White Cloth Hall. Phil brought an enthusiasm, thoughtfulness, and practical approach that made him a great collaborator on a tricky project. We’re thrilled that he’s agreed to bring his experience and energy to Buttress, and to future interesting and exciting projects we’ll work on together.”
Ward added: “I joined Buttress because they are the best. I’ve known Jenna Johnston and director Stephen Anderson for many years and the offer of working with them was too good to turn down.
“Buttress has values that I respect with expertise that cannot be matched. I’m looking forward to being part of the team and strengthening Buttress’ presence in Yorkshire.”
