HBC Construction starts work on £6m Templeborough business zone
Working alongside Rotherham Council and Magna, the project will create eight flexible units totalling almost 10,000 sq ft next to the Magna Science Adventure Centre.
Known as Steelos Business Park, the development will comprise six commercial units and two food-and-beverage spaces aimed at supporting SMEs.
In addition to the business units, the scheme includes landscaped public spaces, outdoor seating, improved pedestrian routes and parking to create a mixed-use destination for businesses, visitors and the local community.
The business park takes its name from Steel, Peech and Tozer, the 19th-century steelmaker whose former Templeborough works was transformed into the Magna Science Adventure Centre.
The project is being funded through the Government’s Town Deal programme and is expected to benefit from improved transport links following the opening of the Magna tram-train station in April, strengthening connections between Templeborough, Sheffield, and Rotherham.
Completion is targeted for the second quarter of 2027. The scheme is being delivered through the YORbuild3 Medium Works framework.
Cllr Chris Read, Leader of Rotherham Council, said: “Templeborough is a key part of Rotherham’s industrial story, and is already home to numerous small business sites. Today it lies at the heart of the Don Valley Corridor, our new Mayoral Development Zone, as a shared local priority for future growth.
“So it’s great to be on site with Magna as work commences on this next phase of business space. It’s a great opportunity to strengthen our local economy, now of course with direct links to the tram-train network and, in the future, Gateway Station.”
