NG Bailey reclaims top spot in UK M&E rankings

After growing turnover by almost 18% to £706.7m, the Leeds-based contractor has jumped from third to first in the latest Building Engineering Services Association Top 30 UK M&E Contractors ranking, overtaking Dalkia and TClarke.

NG Bailey was number one in the 2024 table, before being knocked off the top spot by Dalkia last year.

Its latest turnover of £706.7m puts it narrowly ahead of Dalkia, which reported turnover of £656m.

TClarke, which topped the previous ranking, has slipped to third. Its turnover fell from £847m to £655m.

Wates-owned SES Engineering Services retained fourth place after increasing turnover by 27% from £463.7m to £590.1m.

The latest figures put clear daylight between the four biggest players and the rest of the market, with fifth place Dornan Engineering Services reporting a turnover of £392m – however, this also counted as the largest leap in the table, as the firm jumped six places from 11th place the year before after turnover surged by almost 77%.

Further down the table, CMB Engineering was one of the strongest performers, climbing three places from 20th to 17th after turnover increased almost 49% to £107.1m.

At the other end of the table, Mace MEP recorded the biggest drop, falling five places from 23rd to 28th despite maintaining turnover at £73.6m.

Briggs & Forrester Group dropped four places from eighth to 12th, while SRW fell three places from sixth to ninth.

The latest Top 30 also features six new entrants: Bancroft, MCS Building Services, Price Building Services, Group Metropolitan, Derry Building Services, and J & B Hopkins.
