Images revealed for Leeds Town Hall revamp
A new accessible entrance, box office, and bar are part of the interior overhaul to update concert and event facilities at the 166-year old, grade one-listed building.
Architects Page\Park and NPS Leeds designed the images and Kier has been confirmed as the contractor for the redevelopment.
Structural works will also include conservation and repair of some of the building’s historic features including stone masonry, plasterwork, and doors.
The refurbishment is scheduled for completion in spring 2026.
Opened in 1858 by Queen Victoria, Leeds Town Hall was designed by architect Cuthbert Brodrick and is one of the largest town halls in the UK.
Standing at 225 ft, it was the tallest building in Leeds until 1966, when the 253 ft Park Plaza hotel was constructed.
The council is undertaking the redevelopment of the building in order to generate more income and host more events.
Dan Doherty, regional director for Kier Construction North and Scotland, said: “Our highly skilled project teams have vast experience of regenerating listed buildings and we look forward to contributing to the preservation of this city centre landmark for generations to come.”
A spokesperson for Page/Park added: “We have designed the project to respect the existing building, while inserting colourful and joyful new elements inspired by the rich colour palettes of the original interiors, as well as the vibrant nature of city.”
