Huddersfield Town acquires Accu Stadium
The League One team has bought out former co-owners Kirklees Council and Huddersfield Giants, taking a 300-year lease on the venue and the surrounding 53-acre site.
Law firm Chadwick Lawrence Solicitors advised Huddersfield Town on the acquisition.
The club now has full ownership and will operate the stadium under the name Kirklees Stadium Development.
The club has indicated its intentions to regenerate the site.
Huddersfield Town owner and chairman Kevin Nagle said: “From day one, we identified the Accu Stadium as a potential jewel in the crown of the club, and began talks almost immediately to explore the possibility of taking control and ownership for the first time in our history.
“We knew that this wouldn’t be easy, but having the ability to shape the future of our club’s home is hugely important to us…
“Through time, care and intelligent investment, we will be seeking to bring our home back up to its full potential.
“A unique stadium with the opportunity to become a true destination venue, plans are already in place and work is ongoing on evolving and future-proofing the stadium and the surrounding site, whilst never losing sight of its primary status as the proud and long-term home of Huddersfield Town Football Club.”
Leanne Franks, partner at Chadwick Lawrence, said: “As long-term partners of Huddersfield Town Football Club, we are proud to have supported the club in securing full ownership of Kirklees Stadium Development Limited.
“This acquisition gives the club greater control and flexibility over its future, allowing for strategic investments that will benefit supporters and the wider community for years to come.”
