Countrylarge Leeds scheme set for green light
The developer’s plans to build an 18-storey, 164-apartment block in the South Bank area will be reviewed by Leeds City Council on Thursday, following a viability assessment that concluded the project will only be possible if no affordable housing is included.
Planning permission for a 16-storey, 150-apartment block was granted in November 2022, after which Countrylarge bought the disused plot with help from a bridging loan provided by Together.
Since then, plans have been tweaked and resubmitted, remaining similar in terms of scale and layout.
Designed by Corstorphine & Wright, the project has been supported by planners Zerum.
Intended for young professionals, the scheme is located within the busy South Bank area of the city, with Carlisle Road to the north, Sayner Lane to the south west, and a vacant site alongside it to the east.
The 0.4-acre plot of land has a factory on site, which would be demolished to make way for the apartment block comprising a ground-floor amenity area, post room, cycle storage, bin storage, and plant room.
The apartments would be split into 67 one-bed, 80 two-bed, and 17 three-bed homes.
The recommendation for the meeting on Thursday is to defer and delegate the plans to the chief planning officer.
