A sweet deal for Haribo
Following a bumper year for profit, the UK branch of the confectionery company is going to invest £35m in its Castleford factory, including a purpose-built warehouse that will complete early next year.
An additional production and packaging line are also part of the plans, to help with the growing demand for the sweets.
This is not the only recent expansion at the Haribo factory. Last year, Caddick Construction built a 94,000 sq ft warehouse at the sweet manufacturer’s Castleford base, for which The Harris Partnership was the architect.
Haribo’s strong financial year saw it achieve a record market share of 22.6%, and a 7.7% increase in turnover – £291.6m for the year ending 31 December 2024, up from £270.8m the previous year.
Pre-tax profit also increased for the company, up to £40.8m from £31.4m in 2023.
Dunhills is the manufacturer and distributor of the sweets, and operates under both the Haribo and Maoam brands.
Jon Hughes, managing director, said: “We’re proud of Haribo UK’s performance in 2024, and to once again be the most popular choice for consumers within our category.
“Through ongoing investment in our production sites and continued innovation across our treats, stores, people, and community initiatives, we continue to bring more moments of childlike happiness and to be part of Yorkshire’s proud next chapter of food manufacturing excellence.”
