Asda to trial concept store in home town of Leeds

The supermarket has closed the doors of its Asda Living 22,500 sq ft unit at Crown Point retail park, and will reopen it as a stand-alone George homeware shop.

If successful, the plan is to roll out the rebranding of Asda Living to George at all its stores across the UK.

The George brand first originated in 1989, when designer George Davies partnered with Asda to create the UK’s first supermarket clothing brand.

By 2004, Asda was Britain’s biggest clothing retailer, and it decided to expand into homeware by launching its first Asda Living store.

The new concept store will open on 10 May and will offer clothing, homeware, toys, baby items, and a café area.

The shop is also leaving nothing to chance and will offer traditional, self-service options, and Click & Collect checkout options.

Commenting on the re-brand plans, Asda chief commercial officer George and Retail stores, Liz Evans, said: “Our Asda Living stores have been incredibly successful in showcasing the best of our non-food offering conveniently under roof, creating a seamless shopping experience for our customers…

“Our plans for the new George concept store in Leeds are really exciting and will offer a unique format that truly sets us apart from competitors.

“We believe this new approach along with our focus on value, quality, and standout hero categories will continue to differentiate us
in the market and we look forward to hearing what our customers think.”
