Anchor looks to re-do Wharfedale offering

The affordable retirement housing provider has lodged plans with Bradford City Council to demolish its Hanover Gardens accommodation and build a replacement 69-apartment block.

Located in Burley-in-Wharfedale, the scheme has been designed by Brewster Bye Architects and supported by Contour Planning.

Proposals include a horseshoe-layout, 60,000 sq ft building with 61 one-bedroom and eight two-bedroom apartments for the over 55s, all of which will be available via social rent.

The building will range between two three-storey wings and a central four-storey section, and all homes will have accessible layouts and private garden space.

Situated in a residential area, the site is south of Burley-in-Wharfedale town centre, close to public green space, bus routes, and a train station.

As its justification for demolition rather than conversion, Anchor noted that the existing 1970’s building ‘holds no historic or architectural significance’ and doesn’t meet current housing standards, including inefficient heating systems, which has led to difficulties in attracting new tenants.
