Plans in for Scarborough RUFC
As it approaches its centenary, the rugby club has submitted designs for a reimagined Silver Royd site, to include a full-size 4G pitch, an additional 250-seat spectator stand, an extended clubhouse, and a third padel court.
Funding will be supplied via private donations and sponsorships, and if approved by North Yorkshire Council, the club believes the improvements will help to address the ‘chronic shortage’ of sports facilities in Scarborough.
Designed and planned by Spawforths, this first stage of development comprises extending the clubhouse balcony to include 115 tiered seats; extending the squash building to incorporate two more courts and new toilets; adding in the third padel court; replacing Pitch Two with a new 4G pitch to provide an all-weather surface for training and community use; and constructing a 250-seat spectator stand for Pitch Two, to improve the match-day experience.
The club has also acquired a field to the north of Silver Royd, in conjunction with Broadland Properties and the Guthrie family, and plans to submit a planning application for a floodlit hockey AstroTurf pitch and an expanded car park in the future.
The AstroTurf pitch would also be used for rugby training, fitness, and a range of other sports.
