Aldi and Eshton push on in Northallerton

With consultation carried out in November, the partners have lodged plans for an £8m local centre, also set to feature Burger King, Starbucks and Greggs.

This will be phase one of a new neighbourhood centre, designed to align with the masterplan for the 900-home North Northallerton residential development area.

The proposed location is a gateway site. There is a further retail/F&B unit available alongside those already committed.

November’s consultation for the North Moor Road project saw more than 250 responses, with more than 75% in favour, said the development partners.

A spokesperson for Aldi, said: “We are delighted to have submitted our plans for a new local neighbourhood centre in North Northallerton. We’d like to thank the community for their high level of engagement with our consultation, and the great level of support we have received throughout the consultation process.

“We’re looking forward to our plans being determined by North Yorkshire Council. A new Aldi food store at this site would greatly improve the local retail offer, and deliver a great boost to the local economy, creating up to 40 new, full-time equivalent jobs for local people.”

Yorkshire property company Eshton Group said: “We are excited about the potential of this proposed development in North Northallerton. Collaborating with Aldi to introduce this neighbourhood centre aligns perfectly with our commitment to creating vibrant, community-focused spaces.

“We eagerly await the decision by North Yorkshire Council and remain committed to delivering a development that will contribute positively to the local landscape.”

North Yorkshire Council will determine the application, with a decision expected to be made in the coming months. The planning application can be viewed on the council’s website, using the application reference ZB23/02459/REM.
