Phase four of Park Hill set to start
Delivered by Urban Splash and Places for People, and backed by £6.4m from Homes England, work on the latest phase of regeneration at the Sheffield landmark is set to begin later this month.
Of the 125 homes being delivered, 30 (24%) will be affordable following an agreement between joint venture partners Urban Splash, Places for People, and Great Places Housing.
Homes England agreed in January to provide £6.4m via brownfield funding to support phase four and has also committed funding towards Great Places’ acquisition of the homes.
Great Places previously worked alongside Urban Splash at Park Hill, delivering 96 homes during phase one of the grade two-listed building’s renovation.
Plans for phase four also include enhanced public realm, EV charging points, car club facilities, and secure cycle storage.
Urban Splash and Places for People will also deliver a fifth phase, which has already received consent. It will bring a further 105 homes, including apartments, duplexes, and townhouses, alongside new commercial space for independent businesses.
The regeneration of Park Hill has so far delivered 455 homes, 356 student accommodation beds, and more than 50,000 sq ft of commercial space, alongside landscaping and green space.
The wider Park Hill project team includes architect Mikhail Riches, Estrada Ecology, Civic Engineers, Austin Smith Lord as landscape architect, Buttress advising on heritage, Broadfield Project Management, Sandy Brown on acoustics, CHPKFire, Booth King, and Salford Environmental Consultancy.
Nilam Buchanan, regional managing director for Central and North developments at Places for People, added: “Park Hill is one of the UK’s most exciting regeneration stories, and throughout its redevelopment we have prioritised creating homes of mixed tenure – and are proud to bring in more affordable homes here.
“By working in partnership, we’re delivering a mix of homes and spaces that support a genuinely inclusive and sustainable community – one that reflects the character of Sheffield while looking firmly to the future.”
Guy Ackernley, managing director of development and residential at Urban Splash, added: “Bringing forward more affordable homes at Park Hill is hugely important to us.
“This partnership ensures that the next phase continues to open up this iconic building to a wider range of residents, while maintaining the quality, design and sense of place that defines Park Hill today.”
