Goole Freeport South advances
Outline plans from HBD and landowner St John’s College Cambridge for a 300-acre industrial and manufacturing park are tipped for approval at East Yorkshire’s planning meeting.
Located immediately south of the M62 at Junction 36, 2.5km west of Goole, and close to Goole Docks, the new Freeport would provide around 5.6m sq ft of employment space.
The site is expected to accommodate buildings from 40,000 sq ft to 1m sq ft and would add significantly to East Yorkshire’s already impressive I&L landscape.
The project team also consists of Sheffield-based architect BDP, planning consultant Arup, and Savills.
Plans include the demolition of buildings at Percy Lodge Farm, the erection of the sheds, and access, landscaping, and engineering works.
HBD submitted the application for the scheme in June last year.
The recommendation is for the committee to defer the decision while a financial contribution towards the J36 highway mitigation is calculated, after which the director of planning can approve.
It will be a busy planning meeting for East Yorkshire, as councillors will also be considering the nearby 3m sq ft Metsä factory, which is also set for the green light following J36 financial calculations.
