North Yorkshire approves 150 Pickering homes
Keyland’s plans for 12 acres south of Whitby Road have been given the go-ahead.
Not all the issues were fully ironed out, with councillors in the end agreeing to stamp the application as ‘minded to grant’ so that an objection from Yorkshire Water and concerns around how the lighting from the estate might encroach onto the North York Moors ‘Dark Skies’ initiative can be investigated without the application being sent back to council.
Surrounded by housing estates and fields, the site was seen to be a sustainable extension to the town and was described as ’rounding off’ a neighbouring development.
Plans for the site include a community green, a play area with pitches, recreational paths, and a potential green corridor. As the estate would be between existing development, the edge of Pickering, and a community park, Keyland has said it would look to create a large-scale green link to improve connectivity for residents.
Supported by architect Tate + Co, landscape architect TPM, and planning consultant Spawforth, the wider project team also includes consultantcies Brooks Ecological, 3ADAPT, Andrew Moseley Associates, SLR, Brookbanks, OEC, Adept Heritage, Iain Tavendale Arbor, and Prospect Archaeology.
