£6m York care home completes
Developed by Brough-based Yorkare and constructed by Hobson & Porter, the 60-bed, three-storey building is located off Shipton Road, two miles from the city centre.
Work began in 2024 on the footprint of a former mental health facility, with JLL acting as planning consultant.
Clifton Hall offers residential, respite, and day care, with one floor specifically designed for people with dementia, with facilities including two in-house bars, dining rooms, a cinema, and a beauty and hairdressing salon.
The project marks the ninth scheme Yorkare and Hobson & Porter have worked on together, which also includes a 63-bed care home in Haxby.
Landscaping includes a bowling green, and a parcel of land has been gifted to the neighbouring York Sports Club which has enabled several new pitches to be created.
Shane Talbot, homes manager at Yorkare, said: “The home’s grounds overlook nearby York Sports fields, offering wonderful open views that are perfect for sports enthusiasts and for those who simply enjoy watching the activity and energy of the local community.
“It’s a setting that brings together exceptional outlooks and a strong sense of connection to the wider area.”
Hobson & Porter’s managing director, Richard Hunter, said: “This development has seen a redundant medical centre demolished to make way for a magnificent new care home that has completely transformed this disused site – all in less than 18 months.
“This is testament to the hard work of the entire development team and our supply chain.”
