Latimer aims for 40% affordable housing on BTR Dyecoats scheme

The £100m project on Kirkstall Road in Leeds will deliver around 1,800 homes by 2032, with phase one now underway on the 13-acre site.

Contractor Graham is currently working on the foundations of phase one, which will provide around 400 homes.

A bridge spanning the River Aire and linking the site to Otter Island has also been installed.

Part of the Clarion Housing Group, which is registered with the Regulator of Social Housing and is a charitable entity, Latimer is targeting the ambitious 40% affordable housing figure and is also hosting temporary accommodation on site for homeless charity St George’s Crypt.

The nine-bed cabin provides a base for people who would otherwise be sleeping rough. Once work has progressed to a point where the cabin can’t stay on site, it can be dismantled and rebuilt somewhere else in the city.

Mike Briffett, regional managing director at Clarion, said: “There’s 27,000 people on the waiting list for homes in Leeds.

“We need to make the most of sites like this, for good quality, affordable housing close to where people can access good transport into the city, jobs, and education.

“We currently have planning for around 1,600 homes and we’re looking to increase that to 1,800 on the basis that we’ll deliver more affordable [housing] in the location where it’s most needed.”
