Green light for Leeds hotel
The Nation of Shopkeepers bar on Cookridge Street, located between Millenium Square and the Headrow, will have its vacant first and second floor offices converted into 42 hotel rooms.
Mitchells & Brothers Retail, which owns Nation of Shopkeepers, submitted an application for the project in October last year, with the project team also including Allison Pike Architects and consultant JTS Partnership.
The hotel rooms will be operated under the Innkeepers Collection hotel chain and alongside the pub, which will continue to occupy the ground floor.
Work will include internal alterations, a layout change for the basement floor so the back-of-house area can also accommodate the hotel, the installation of an external service lift in the courtyard, and minor external alterations.
Located in the city centre, the grade two-listed building is at the corner junction of Great George Street and Cookridge Street, adjacent to Leeds Cathedral and Millennium Square.
