Assent drafts in ex-HSE specialist

Colin Blatchford-Brown has rejoined Wakefield-headquartered Assent Building Control as a consultant, having recently worked as an operational policy lead within the Health & Safety Executive.

He will support Assent in the implementation of key operational changes, the company said, as new post-Grenfell legal duties on all Building Control-approved inspectors come into play, with inspectors soon to become known as Registered Building Control Approvers.

Blatchford-Brown, who led on gateways & building control for the HSE, will provide support for BCAs at both Assent and Clarke Banks, the company Assent acquired this summer.

He said: “I’m really pleased to be able to support Assent at this time of change. I look forward to working with all of the teams in the wider group and their clients alike to prepare for the changes that lie ahead with the introduction of the Building Safety Regulations.”

Ian Thomson, chief executive of Assent, said: “As an integral member of the HSE’s Gateways & Building Control unit, Colin has been pivotal to the development and implementation of the BSA (Building Safety Act) and BSR, and his in-depth knowledge of its policy will be a huge benefit to our teams nationally and to all of our clients.”
