Plans in for Sheffield’s Weston Tower
Packaged Living and Baccleuch Property’s 316-home development on the site of a derelict office building has taken a step forward.
Plans for the demolition of the existing building and the erection of an apartment block with commercial space on the ground floor have been submitted to Sheffield City Council.
Designed by HLM Architects, the project team also includes planning consultant Urbana, Gardiner & Theobald, re-form Landscape Architecture, Hexa, Crookes Walker Consultants, heritage consultant Fourth Wall Surveyors, GIA, Stantec, and Weddle.
The site has been vacant and dilapidated for many years, and the project seeks to bring it back into use, with a report from Urbana noting that the change of use from office to residential is supported by surrounding developments in the area, such as Soho Yard, which comprises 368 build-to-rent apartments backed by Legal & General at West Bar.
Located at a key point along the Grey to Green cycle and pedestrian network and only a short walk from the city centre, Weston Tower will support wider city regeneration goals by delivering new homes on a brownfield site within the central area.
The building will link directly with pedestrian and cycle routes connected to the new Dutch Roundabout and the wider Grey to Green network.
The development will include a mix of studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments to meet local housing needs.
Residents will benefit from a range of amenity areas, including a rooftop terrace, cycle storage, and an entrance lobby.
Overall, the proposals are designed to complement and extend the reach of the important West Bar development, which is already partly complete.
