Wheatley M&S dates unveiled

The £7m expansion of the retail park store, which is tripling in size to 32,000 sq ft, will be complete by October, with the city centre Baxtergate shop closing on 14 September.

Stainforth Construction has been delivering the project for British Land, owner of the Wheatley Store in South Yorkshire.

Lichfields has guided the project through the planning process, with Stride Treglown on board as architect and Dragonfly Consulting advising on noise issues.

Planning permission was granted last august with work started on site towards the end of the year. The scheme will see the Wheatley store go from a Foodhall branch to a superstore offering M&S’s food, fashion, home, and beauty ranges.

The Wheatley foodhall will temporarily close from Sunday 3 August to allow for extension works, before re-opening on Monday 15 September, followed by Fashion, Home and Beauty in October.

The closure of the city centre branch and the move into a larger retail park unit is reflective of a common retail trend, and is a decision that M&S says it is confident will improve customer experience.

Kerry Ely, Regional Manager at M&S, said: “The countdown is really underway to reveal our transformed Doncaster Wheatley store! We’re confident this investment will allow us to offer a much-improved shopping experience for our customers here in Doncaster and many more M&S products to choose from.”
