Barnsley to sign off on Capitol Park expansion

Reserved matters approval is expected for the 190,000 sq ft industrial scheme by Sterling Capitol at Higham Lane, Dodworth.

The application covers two buildings, one of 104,963 sq ft and one of 83,971 sq ft. Around 5% of each building’s internal area would be given over to office space.

Sterling Capitol’s professional team includes architect The Harris Partnership, planner Peacock + Smith and landscape architect Vector Design Concepts.

The 13.6-acre site is close to Junction 37 of the M1 and currently consists of two fields. A hybrid consent was secured in 2019, which covered full consent for demolition of an existing bungalow and associated buildings, along with earthworks; and outline consent for the new industrial buildings.

A further consent was granted in 2020 for highway access works, which was granted but has not yet started. Access to the site is proposed from the existing southeast corner, where capacity would be added, with a further access from the yet to be built roundabout.

Barnsley’s planning regulatory committee meets on Tuesday 13 June to discuss the application, which has the reference number 2022/0916. The committee will also consider a 125-home proposal in Goldthorpe, from Gleeson, also recommended for approval.
