Anchor tenants sought as Redcar station progresses
Naylors Gavin Black has been appointed to fill the 14,000 sq ft that will be available following the redevelopment of the grade two-listed Central Station.
Once complete, the building will be fully powered by electricity and will have out-of-sight solar panels installed on the Victorian building.
The station building and the train shed are undergoing extensive conservation works, as well as modernisation to make it fully accessible, funded by the Levelling Up partnership, Welcome to Redcar and Cleveland fund, and the Railway Heritage Trust.
Work is expected to be complete this winter.
Earmarked for hospitality and retail, the council wants a mix of daytime and evening uses, including a tap room or bar, restaurant, shops, and flexible workspaces that could also be used for community events.
Indoor waiting areas, toilets, and changing facilities will, of course, be included as well.
Partner at NGB, Chris Pearson said: “We’re open to proposals for different uses but the obvious choice of anchor tenant would be a popular hospitality provider.
“The incoming significant investment in the station will help put Redcar on the map by creating a high-quality visitor experience and improving the look of one of the town’s main gateways.”
Cllr Lynn Pallister, cabinet member for growth and enterprise at Redcar & Cleveland Council, said: “The redevelopment of Redcar Central Station is a fantastic opportunity to breathe new life into one of Redcar’s most iconic buildings.
“As the project takes shape, we’re excited to see it become a destination for both locals and visitors, and we’d love to see a thriving mix of hospitality venues, cafés, bars, and retail businesses bring new energy and life to this space.”
