Miller throws its hat into Yarm’s ring
The housebuilder wants to build 376 homes in the market town, although fierce local opposition to existing planning applications may prove a barrier.
Supported by Lichfields, plans for the housing estate show it would include 60% accessible homes, 48% will be bungalows, and 20% will be affordable.
Amenities would include a local centre, care home, a farm shop, padel courts, and a park on fields at Mount Leven.
The market town is receiving a lot of attention from housing developers at the moment, including Banks’ breaking ground on its 109-home Cornfields site.
Plans from Taylor Wimpey to build 600 homes in Yarm have already raised more than 400 objections, while VB Turnbull’s application to build up to 255 homes in the Stockton-on-Tees town, on 33 acres to the south west edge of Eaglescliffe, have also come under local fury.
Meanwhile, a plan for a retirement village with 332 houses and a 68-bed nursing home was approved by the council in 2016, although as of yet only a roundabout has been built.
This is the first time Miller has tried to build in the area and follows several attempts from other developers in recent years, including a rejected application last year from Mandale Homes.
A spokesperson for Miller Homes said: “The development includes a balanced mix of house types – with almost half being bungalows – alongside significant public open space and a country park with walking routes, benches, raised flower beds and outdoor exercise equipment.
“Improvements to footpath and cycle links will provide safe and sustainable connections towards Yarm.
“We welcome members of the community to find out more about our proposal at a drop-in event on Tuesday, September 2.”
The drop in event will take place at Worsall Village Hall from 3pm until 7pm.
