Evans advances Dakota York
KPP Architects has designed the 140-room hotel plotted by the Yorkshire property firm on York’s Rougier Street, for which plans have now been lodged.
The submission of a planning application, led on by O’Neill Associates, follows a consultation in September regarding proposals for the Northern House site at 9 Rougier Street. The site is close to highly visible destinations such as the Malmaison and the Maltings.
Evans Property Group’s professional team also includes CBRE providing market advice, and Montague Evans, which provided a heritage statement.
All planning documents can be viewed on City of York Council’s planning portal with the reference 24/02021/FULM.
Northern House is an unlisted 1960s office building of seven storeys. The proposal is for demolition, to be replaced by an eight-storey building, stepping down to two storeys to the south and three storey to the north, providing hotel accommodation, a restaurant and other hotel-type facilities.
Bringing Evans’ high-end Dakota brand – only thus far present in Leeds and Manchester in England, with an office conversion on-site in Newcastle (also designed by KPP) – to York would give the city another hotel option on a par with the Grand, Jorvik House, Judges Lodging and Clementine’s.
The market appraisal filed with the application said: “Dakota will enhance the city’s ability to meet the needs of the discerning visitor market.”
