WYCA to move Mass Transit plans forward

West Yorkshire Combined Authority will meet this week and is set to approve £40m of funding for detailed planning and development work on the proposed trams.

The extra funding will keep the scheme on track to have spades in the ground by 2028, and will include further assessments on tram route options for phase one of the project, as well as technical consultations on how special services could run alongside franchised services in one united bus network.

The funding would also go towards the admin involved with making the case when it goes before government in the future.

Later this month, a key assurance review will be held before the Mass Transit project is submitted to the Government’s Major Projects Portfolio.
