Work starts on reopening Bramall Lane hotel

The venue at Sheffield United’s ground will be a DoubleTree by Hilton hotel, in partnership with Leaf Hospitality. A late summer opening for guests is the goal.

The 155-room hotel at Bramall Lane was previously operated by Copthorne, but has been unused since it was vacated in 2020 as part of the court wranglings over the football club’s ownership.

SUFC said that “work has now commenced on re-opening the hotel located at S2, with guests expected to be welcomed back from late summer 2024”.

According to the club, the project will boost the local economy with the creation of 100 new jobs and enhance the Bramall Lane offering for locals and travellers alike, with Blades fans will have the opportunity to enjoy pre-and post-match gatherings in the hotel’s lounge bar and take advantage of its events facilities.

“This new addition will further enhance the matchday experience for our supporters and contribute to the ongoing development of the S2 area. The return of the hotel is welcomed by everyone at the Football Club.”

When completed, DoubleTree by Hilton Sheffield City will be the third Hilton branded property in the area, joining DoubleTree by Hilton Sheffield Park and Hampton by Hilton Sheffield. The 155-room hotel will include a penthouse suite, a fitness centre, and events space for up to 300 guests.

United recently announced that an agreement is in place to purchase land for a new first team training centre on the site of the HSBC Sports & Social Club in Dore.
