Work begins on Hull High Street
The city centre improvements are being delivered by Eric Wright Civil Engineering, and will connect the historic Old Town area with the Fruit Market.
Funded by National Highways and Hull City Council, the plan is to improve connectivity and create a better space for pedestrians.
A wider programme in the city includes work on Humber Dock Street and Princes Dock Street. being delivered by CR Reynolds.
Work will start today and take around three months to complete.
The project includes a raised pedestrian crossing at the junction with Church Lane Staith, improvements to the eastern footpath, a widened footpath at the northern end, and enhanced signage.
Gillian Osbergy, interim assistant director of major projects and infrastructure for Hull City Council, said: “This improvement project is a vital part of Hull’s ongoing transformation.
“High Street is a key route connecting the Old Town and Fruit Market, and these works will not only improve accessibility for everyone but also highlight the city’s rich maritime heritage.
“We’re excited to see the project come to life, and we’re committed to ensuring that the disruption is kept to a minimum for residents, motorists, and businesses while we enhance this important part of the city.”
Osbergy will be speaking at the East Yorkshire Development Update, which is a dedicated event discussing the regeneration in Hull and the new developments in the rest of the region, notably in the Freeports.
