Vistry and Miller acquire Huddersfield brownfield site

The site has outline planning permission for more than 700 homes, of which Vistry will build 469 mixed-tenure and Miller Homes will construct 231 houses near the hamlet of Blackmoorfoot.

Vistry’s housing mix will be made up of 50% affordable or private rented housing, while Miller’s will all be for the private market.

A care home and convenience store will also be constructed on the site, which is 3.5km south west of Huddersfield town centre.

Located on former industrial land, the site will also have green corridors, a park, and outdoor play areas, with 25% of the development being green space.

The houses will range from one- to five bed properties, and the developers will contribute £1.3m towards local schools and £900,000 into local roads and sustainable transport improvements.

Andrew Poyner, managing director of Vistry West Yorkshire, said: “This major site will deliver many hundreds of new, high quality, mixed-tenure homes, helping to support the council’s local housing needs and breathing new life into this vacant, brownfield site.”

Justin Tranmere, regional operations director of Miller Homes Yorkshire, said: “Miller Homes is delighted to be partnering with Vistry Group to deliver new homes for Huddersfield through the purchase of this significant site.”
